About Israel

Israel Udochukwu Isaac is a versatile Nigerian performance artist based in Nova Scotia, Canada.  He has extensive experience in the entertainment industry, especially in stage productions, radio, movies, and television.  He also has experience behind the scenes as a director.

In Nigeria, he is best known for his roles as Udoh in Iya Modina (NTA TV comedy series), Sam in Couple Hustle (YouTube series), and as Obaseki in the play titled Obaseki (written by Don Pedro Agbonifo Obaseki). These performances demonstrate his range in being able to perform as characters from different tribes.

Israel grew up in the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.  He developed his love of performing at a very young age and would perform in school and church dramas at every provided opportunity. His ability to share his love of performance arts inspired the neighbourhood children to develop a passion for performing also, increasing their own confidence and feelings of self-worth.

Following his passion for performing, Israel attended the University of Ibadan where he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts and Master of Arts in Theatre Arts, majoring in dance, choreography and theatre management.

Israel is also a social activist and an advocate that positive change can be achieved by bringing societal issues to light through storytelling.  He is  a proponent  that theatre can be a catalyst for social change, and choses his roles conscious of the messaging and potential impact on the audience.

Israel was an integral member of the Arojah Royal Theatre company, both as a performer and director, before leaving Nigeria, and continues to act as a consultant from Canada.  This company believes in the concept of theatre as a social force. He was also a member of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP), and the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN, Nollywood. Abuja Chapter).

While Israel is comfortable in any role, he is most at home playing satirical, comedic, and tragic characters.  He also has extensive experience with dance choreography and as a dance critic.

Away from performing, Israel enjoys participating in most sports, especially swimming and soccer.
